The Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Band is made up of over two hundred 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in three different levels of band. Students range in technical proficiency levels from beginners through advanced.  

The band is well-traveled. In 2012 and 2014, the band traveled to Los Angeles, California participated in some wonderful educational experiences, including attending live concerts, visiting the Grammy Museum, and performing at Disneyland. The band has taken numerous trips to Oʻahu to participate in festivals, collaborate with other bands, visit educational sites, and attend concerts.  

​The bands can be seen in numerous performances throughout the year on Kaua`i, including the 2nd and 3rd Year Band Fall Concert, Annual Spring Concert, Lights on Rice Parade, Veteran's Day Parade, and Kauaʻi Solo and Ensemble Festival. In addition to the three levels of concert bands, the CKMS Band has a Jazz Band and a Beginning Percussion Class that meet  after-school. CKMS was the first school in Hawaiʻi to have a United Sound Club.
